Blackadder II Auditions
Sunday 10th, Monday 11th & Tuesday 12th August from 7pm-10pm
Beaumaris Theatre Inc. excited to announce auditions for our upcoming November stage production of Blackadder II, a theatrical adaptation of the beloved BBC comedy series. This production will feature three classic episodes from the second series: Bells, Beer, and Chains.
In fair Elizabethan England, there dwells Edmund Blackadder, a wit as sharp as his pointed beard, though his fortune proves ever fickle. A knave both cunning and proud, he doth seek power and favour in Queen Elizabeth’s court, yet he’s thwarted by fools, from his dimwitted servant Baldrick to his boorish friend, Lord Percy.
Wary of the Queen’s capricious wrath, he doth dance betwixt ambition and survival, crafting schemes bold yet oft undone by folly. His quest for glory doth end ever in despair, for fate conspires to render him a jest, e’er trapped in Fortune’s cruel jesting snare.
We are committed to assembling a diverse and inclusive cast, and we warmly welcome auditionees of all ages, gender identities, and ethnic backgrounds. Whether you're a seasoned performer or new to the stage, we encourage you to bring your unique voice and energy to these iconic characters.

All characters will require English accents.
Note: The following characters will be played one actor across the 3 episodes.
Blackadder (male identifying. Playing age range: 25-40)
Edmund Blackadder is a cunning, sarcastic nobleman with a sharp tongue and an eye for advancement. Constantly frustrated by the idiots surrounding him, he schemes his way through court life with wit and disdain. He sees himself as the only intelligent man in a sea of fools.Baldrick (male identifying. Playing age range: 25-35)
Baldrick is Blackadder’s dim-witted servant, forever grubby and proudly stupid. His plans are always terrible, yet he offers them with earnest enthusiasm. Loyal to a fault, he’s the butt of many jokes—and rarely understands any of them.Queen Elizabeth (Queenie) (female identifying. Playing age range: 20-35)
Childlike, capricious, and dangerously bored, Queen Elizabeth delights in power games and petty punishments. She swings wildly between girlish glee and sudden wrath. Beneath her crown lies a wildly unpredictable mind.Lord Percy (male identifying. Playing age range: 25-40)
A foppish and clueless aristocrat, Percy is obsessed with fashion and status but lacks both intelligence and self-awareness. He considers himself Blackadder’s equal, though he is regularly outwitted and humiliated. His attempts at alchemy and advice are unfailingly disastrous.Lord Melchett (male identifying. Playing age range: 35-50)
The Queen’s blustering and sycophantic advisor, Melchett is pompous, loud, and fiercely loyal to Elizabeth. He thrives on enforcing her whims and bullying others beneath him. He and Blackadder share mutual contempt, thinly disguised as civility.Nursie (female identifying. Playing age range: 30-50)
Nursie is Queenie’s childhood nurse, still treating her like a little girl. Confused, doddery, and prone to bizarre stories about udders and milkmaids, she’s cheerfully oblivious to the chaos around her. Her outdated affection is both touching and utterly maddening.Note: We are also casting an ensemble of five actors to play featured roles in the production.
Ensemble 1 (Female Identifying, playing age range 20-30):
Will play the roles of Kate/Bob, Geoffrey Piddle and Guard 1. Note: The actor cast in this role will be wearing traditionally male costumes in the production.
Ensemble 2 (Male Identifying, playing age range: 50+):
Will play the roles of Kate/Bob’s Father and Lord Whiteadder. Note: Since Lord Whiteadder has taken a vow of silence, we are seeking an actor with a particularly expressive face.
Ensemble 3 (Male Identifying, playing age range 30-50):
Will play the roles of Dr Leech and Simon Partridge.
Ensemble 4 (Male Identifying, playing age range 20-40):
Will play the roles of Young Crone, Monk and Torturer. Note: The Torturer does not speak English, only Spanish. The Torturer’s lines can be re-written phonetically.
Ensemble 5 (Female Identifying, playing age range: 40-60):
Will play the roles of: Wisewoman, Lady Whiteadder and Guard 2.
Note: The roles of Lord Flashheart and Prince Ludwig have been precast.
We are seeking performers from a wide range of ages, cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds, gender identities and body types to be part of this special production. The creative team are open to different interpretations of the character descriptions.
